Hi!
My name is Andrea Zhang, and I’m a 5th grader who loves singing, writing stories, science, acting, dancing, and playing golf. I’m always excited to try new things and use my imagination to create something unique and fun.
Music is a big part of my life. I’ve been learning and singing with professional singers since preschool. I was a member of the Southern California Children’s Chorus , a choir that has received multiple Emmy Awards for its performances. I’m also a lead singer for Stream of Praise, an international worship ministry, and I’ve been honored with national awards in music, film, and art, including a Solo Vocal Award in New York, which makes me feel proud to share joy with others through my voice.
Beyond music, I have a curious mind and love exploring the world of science. Beyond my regular science classes at school, I prepare for Science Olympiad with a special science club led by a UCI professor, learning to think like a real scientist while doing challenging experiments and problem‑solving activities. I also attend science and technology conferences where I listen to talks by famous scientists, including Nobel Prize winners and members of the National Academy of Sciences, which inspires me to ask big questions and dream about future discoveries.
Writing is another way I express my creativity. I wrote and illustrated my own fantasy book called “Flying Hamster,” and it was published on Amazon, where readers bought it and left kind reviews that encouraged me to keep going. I’m now working on my second book and joining writing camps to learn more, because turning my imagination into real stories makes me feel confident and excited about the future.
Sports and performing are important to me too. I’ve been playing golf for two years and earned first place in my group of almost 20 students, which taught me patience, focus, and how to stay calm under pressure. I enjoy acting in plays like Mary Poppins and History of California, as well as a short film called Saving Santa, and I’ve performed K‑Pop dances since I was 8 and Zumba dance since I was 5, which helps me tell stories in fun and creative ways.
I am a creative person, a good team leader and player, and kind and supportive to those around me. I enjoy helping classmates feel confident, especially when they’re nervous, and I welcome new students by even translating for friends who are still learning English. I love exploring the unknown and sharing my experiences. Please check out my Activities page to see the activities, shows, and conferences I attend.
